Opel GSe Electrified, performance models set to debut in Irish showrooms

With the revival of the Opel GSe badge, pricing and equipment details of two new, special-order GSe models have been released for the Irish market. Offering the optimum balance between ride, comfort and performance, combined with emissions-free electric mobility, the new Opel Astra plug-in electric hybrid GSe 225hp hatchback will retail from €52,695 plus delivery-related charges, whilst the Opel Grandland GSe 300hp AWD will retail from €59,995 plus delivery. The 12.4kWh lithium-ion battery delivers up to 64km all-electric drive on the open road, or up to 73km in the city (EAER City). The battery is fully charged in around 2 hours at a 22kW wallbox.

With its powerful output of 221 kW / 300hp and maximum torque of 520 Newton metres (WLTP combined fuel consumption: 1.2 l / 100 km, CO2 emissions 27-28 g / km), it accelerates to 100km/h in 6.1 seconds and boasts a top speed of 235km/h, or up to 135km/h in pure electric. James Brooks, Managing Director at Opel Ireland, said: “The new Opel Astra GSe and new Astra Sports Tourer GSe are the ideal cars for launching our dynamic new sub-brand, in full alignment with our strategy to become an all-electric brand by 2028.”

Opel has achieved high performance-oriented handling characteristics by equipping both new models with specially calibrated steering and dedicated chassis, to deliver superior stability during cornering, under braking and while driving at higher motorway speeds, to ensure even more precise handling and high comfort in equal measure.

Inside both models, the sporty ambitions are highlighted by Alcantara-trimmed performance front seats, which are not only unique to the GSe, but further extend Opel’s long-standing reputation for superior seat ergonomics, thanks to their AGR certification.

The Opel GSe label was traditionally an abbreviation of Grand Sport Einspritzung (Grand Sport Injection) as on the Opel Commodore GS/E and the Opel Monza GSE. GSe is now Opel’s top-of-the-range, sporty sub-brand, standing for Grand Sport electric.
