Dudenhofen test centre
Tests and road trials have been an essential part of vehicle development ever since cars were designed and built. The Dudenhofen Test Centre was opened in 1964 near Opel’s Rüsselsheim headquarters. It has been continuously improved to provide the best proofing grounds for the development of safe, environmentally friendly, dynamic and reliable vehicles. Every factor affecting the driving performance of your car is put to the test on a wide variety of tracks. Advanced engineering facilities enable the precise testing and measurement of factors such as durability, emissions, safety, performance and consumption.
Test track overview
On the test tracks theory meets reality. And good ideas get separated from the not so good. The test tracks include:
- Skid pad for testing cornering ability
- 4.8 km high-speed circle track allows speeds of up to 250 km/h without lateral forces
- Comfort and noise measurement track to ascertain rolling tire noise, interior noise and driving comfort
- Torture track brings the truth to light over 900 meters of potholes and humps, the “washboard”, cobbles and pavé
- Hill track puts steering, transmission and brakes to the test with gradients of up to 30 %
- The endurance test track offers many different road surfaces including asphalt and cobblestones, waves and numerous curves, plus gravel, mud, forest and dust trails, a water or salt water bath and two loading ramps
- The performance area is perfect for proving vehicle dynamics or for driver training
- The handling track goes through 16 curves and hollows, uphill and downhill
